Manama, Nov. 29 (BNA): He Shura Council today honoured its nine female members during a celebration held under Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh.
The council hosted the event marking the kingdom’s celebrations of the Bahraini Women’s Day 2018, themed “Women in the Legislative Field and Municipal Work”.
Al-Saleh asserted that Bahraini women have become a cornerstone of legislative development in the kingdom, noting that they have contributed to drafting many important laws that support social stability.
He expressed pride in the unlimited support accorded to Bahraini women from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, as well as in the care and interest of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).
The Shura Council Chairman asserted that the leaders’ support has contributed to the Bahraini women’s advancement and success in attaining local and international achievements, valuing highly the tremendous patriotic efforts exerted by the council’s women members over the past four terms for the sake of enhancing the kingdom’s democratic march.
He affirmed that Bahraini women have proved their competence and outstanding capabilities in various fields, noting that honouring them on December 1 every year is opportunity to celebrate their distinction and move towards consolidating their gains and rights.
He said that this year’s Bahrain Women’s Day is different as a great number of women ran for parliamentary and municipal seats during the elections and won some of them.
Shura Council’s Second Deputy Chairperson, Jameela Ali Salman, in a statement, said that women’s involvement in the legislative work enhances the quality of the output of the National Assembly, stressing that women have proved their merit in taking part in building the future.
She asserted that the theme of this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day will motivate Bahraini women to exert more efforts to optimise their achievements and reach their goals.
Assistant Secretary-General for Relations, Media and Research Affairs and Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Unit at the Shura Council’s Secretariat-General, Dr. Fawzia Yussef Al-Jeeb, highlighted the increasing role played by Bahraini women in public life since the launch of HM the King’s pioneering Reform Project.
She also highlighted the key role played by the Shura Council’s Equal Opportunities Unit in promoting the equal opportunities principle.
